Course Evaluation Process:
Grading:
Your final grade will be based on your performance on two exams (midterm and final), participation, and a research project. All grading is done on a percentage basis. The grading criteria are as follows.
Attendance and 20%
Quiz 1 25%
Quiz 2 25%
Final Project 30%
All grading is done on a percentage basis.
Attendance and Participation:
Attendance will be taken randomly throughout the semester. For each attendance check, students will receive 2 points for being present, 1.5 points for arriving late, 1 point for an approved absence, and 0 points for an unexcused absence. Attendance will account for 20% of the final course grade. The attendance grade will be calculated using the following formula:
Attendance Grade (%) = (Total Attendance Points Earned ÷ [Number of Attendance Checks × 2]) × 100%
Quizzes 1 and 2:
Two quizzes will cover the materials taught and discussed in class. The particular format of the quizzes will be announced before the quiz. There are no make-up quizzes. If an emergency or illness should force you to miss a quiz, contact me before the exam to make alternative arrangements. If we do not discuss the situation before the quiz date, no make-up will be given. The final grade of your quizzes is the average of the two quizzes. However, if you take both quizzes and both grades are greater than zero, 10 extra points will be added to the average of the quizzes.
Important note: There are no makeup quizzes. If you miss an exam for an excused reason, you must contact me before the exam. There are no exceptions to this rule. I will determine excusable absences.
Final project:
Students will be assigned to several groups. There are 3 to 5 students in a group. It will depend on the size of the class. The topics are listed at the end of the syllabus. Each group has a maximum of 20 minutes to present the topic by using PowerPoint slides. The last week of the class is arranged for the presentation. All students should attend the presentations—no excuse for the absence. The grades of class participation and the final project will be discounted for the student who is absent from the presentation.
Academic Dishonesty: No cheating is allowed during the exam. Copying projects is also considered cheating.
Important dates
Quiz 1: Monday, November 02nd, 2026
Quiz 2: Monday, December 28th, 2026
Final project presentation: Monday, January 04th, 2027
